Journalists are often accused of being elitist and cynical, and faultfinding to a fault. To test this stereotype, I sent a memo one recent afternoon to every reporter, editor and photographer at The Washington Post, asking them to nominate the single geographical location that could most accurately be termed "the armpit of America."
