Why Oz the Great and Powerful Is A Major Step Back For Witches and Women

Why Oz the Great and Powerful Is A Major Step Back For Witches and Women:
When it comes to adapting the wonderful world of Oz, Hollywood is, admittedly and regrettably, in a bit of a bind. All things Yellow Brick Road and Emerald City are so tightly linked to the 1939 "The Wizard of Oz" that trying to venture back into L. Frank Baum's mythology is treading on the memories of millions of fans.  The film is such a massive piece of film iconography that it has become the definitive version of this tale, and outstripped the Baum book itself. It doesn't matter that it's a loose adaptation of Baum's work, it is *the* adaptation, and any filmmaker itching to make a more authentic version has their hands permanently tied. The outcry — "How dare you remake The Wizard of Oz!" — would be deafening, no matter how illogical the idea  ("Hamlet" can survive a hundred versions, but not the adventures of Dorothy!). Catastrophic LEGO Incident Leaves West Virginia Highway Strewn With Bricks

Catastrophic LEGO Incident Leaves West Virginia Highway Strewn With Bricks:
If you thought stepping on a LEGO with your bare feet was bad, imagine the scene in West Virginia, where a tote filled with the tiny bricks spilled across a highway and held up traffic for hours on Sunday. More importantly, it made imaginations run wild, wondering how that many LEGO could end up strewn across a highway on a snowy day.
On the local fire department’s Facebook page, one motorist and mom took the blame for the spill. The bricks were in a tote strapped to the top of her car, and fell off. She explained:
Those legos belonged to my 11 yr old son they where in totes strapped to the top of the durango they fell off strap came loose he cried it seemed like forever but I tried to recover as many as I could cause I don’t have the money to buy him anymore.
Sry to anyone that got stuck in traffic
This being the Internet, fellow users weighed in with jokes and offers of replacement LEGO for the alleged upset child.

Woman Gives Birth to Album of Classical Music in Strange German Ad

Woman Gives Birth to Album of Classical Music in Strange German Ad:
The minute-long ad for German composer Sven Helbig's new album, Pocket Symphonies, is a pretty straightforward representation of Helbig's goal to create something new from something old and weathered and mostly (but not quite) dead. It's a pretty good summary of Helbig's career, too. He's worked with Rammstein, Pet Shop Boys and Snoop Dogg, and staged elaborate multimedia events like the High-Rise Symphony, in which an orchestra played from positions on the balconies of an old apartment building in Dresden in 2006, to celebrate the city's 800th anniversary. Compared to that, this ad is a modest effort. The moment when the musicians rush into the medical theater to induce birth with dramatic strings and piano is neat, though. Directed by Kai Schonrath, with creative direction by Kolle Rebbe's Sascha Hanke. Full credits below.
